It is our priority to meet the needs of our patients. At the same time, we are striving to be responsible members of society.
Eco-Friendly & Local Products
Without compromising on effectiveness, we are consciously choosing our products. Our cleaners and disinfectants are locally manufactured and approved by the World Wild Life Foundation (WWF).
We are successful in replacing dangerous chemicals with kinder, friendlier, biodegradable substances without compromising the overall effectiveness of the products.
Interestingly, of the several thousand options available from the major multi-national chemical companies, over 90% of the surfactants were not readily biodegradable.
Rachel Carson warned us in Silent Spring about the rapid ecological upheaval that was being caused by the widespread use of synthetic chemicals, especially in agriculture and forestry.
The latest understanding in toxicology is about the ability of some chemicals to mimic hormones in living organisms. This field of study is about subtle genetic changes brought on by hormone disruptors.
Synthetic compounds found in typical disinfectants and cleaners, such as NPE’s (Nonyl Phenol Ethoxylates), mimic hormonal structure and function.
It can take only one tenth of a part per million to cause reproductive damage in humans and animals. Avoidance of all aldehyde products (Glutaraldehyde) has been our priority.
Hospital level disinfection can be attained in less time with less personal and environmental impact with phenol-free, ethanol-based formulations.
We source local manufacturers and place an emphasis on responsibly made goods. We will add insight into natural choices and healthy products.
We have unique products developed locally and independently.
We are proud to use Clinical Luxury By Nature in our office. These local, clean products offer natural, effective hand soaps in the office.
We have been striving to minimize our ecologic footprint and reduce consumption.
We have eliminated the two greatest sources of waste from a dental office: the toxic mercury from the amalgam fillings and the lead from x-ray film packets.
We are constantly updating and revising our protocols, transitioning to a paperless office.
Technology and awareness are used in tandem for our practice to remain at the cutting edge of dentistry and environmental responsibility.
New Office Build
Enormous effort and thought has gone into the new build on St Clair.
- All of our cabinetry is FSC certified and LEED compliant
- We are in the first 5% of commercial offices to go 100% LEDlighting. We have incorporated colour changing lights to mimic a natural outdoor experience
- Our paint is not only VOC free but helps to promote better indoor air quality by reducing VOC levels from potential sources like carpet, cabinets and fabrics.
- We have made a conscious and sustained effort to purchase local responsible products
At Schecter Dental, the greatest environmental impact is seen in our reduction of pharmaceuticals. Pharmaceuticals can have a negative impact on our environment, affecting our water quality and reproductive potential.
Increased resistance and mutated bacteria are ongoing concerns. Big Pharma wields enormous political clout aiding to shape current medical practice and legislation.
We strive to minimize toxicity and pharmaceutical use. We have locally developed natural rinses, and offer homeopathic remedies as an alternative to antibiotics and pain medication.
By minimizing the use of pharmaceuticals and maximizing health, we are not only serving you, our patient, but also our greater collective community.
